Alhaji Muhammad Sabo, a 95-year-old man, made headlines recently when he married a 14-year-old girl in an Abuja community.
The wedding ceremony took place on May 5, 2023, at Dogon Ruwa, under Gawu in the Abaji Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.
Photos of the couple went viral on social media, sparking controversy and negative criticism from people who assume that the girl was forced into the marriage or that the elderly groom married her for money.
However, Hussaini Duma Jagaba, a Facebook user who shared the photos, confirmed that the wedding was genuine and that the 95-year-old groom and the teenager are in love with each other.
In a statement, Hussaini defended the couple’s love and urged people to stop thinking negatively about their marriage.
As Hussaini put it, “As I witnessed this wedding, I pray may God save the marriage 🕺🕺🕺. 14 years and 95 years, for the interview we made with the old man yesterday after the wedding fatiha, he said whatever people said he doesn’t care about that because they love each other. Some people may think they forced her or she married him because of money. People should stop thinking negative about their marriage👍.”
